Brave Train Employee Receives Life-Threatening Injuries Amid Mass Knife Attack on Express Service
A valiant train staff member who intervened to protect passengers during a mass knife attack on a express train has suffered critical injuries, police stated on Sunday.
Particulars of the Terrifying Event
Surveillance video reportedly depicts the staff member trying to halt the assailant as the train journeyed between a city and another station in the county. Bystanders described a frightening 14-minute period after the train departed Peterborough, with bloodied victims running through carriages.
The individual, a 32-year-old British national from Peterborough, remains in detention for questioning. Police declared a major incident on the 6:25 pm service from Peterborough to King's Cross in central London.
Emergency Response and Consequences
The event on the weekend resulted in 11 people being treated in hospital after the train made an unplanned stop at the station in Huntingdon. Several individuals have since been discharged from hospital.
A witness filmed the individual brandishing a large knife and being shot with a Taser as he faced officers on the station. He was allegedly heard yelling, "End my life, end my life."
“This awful event has created broad consequences. We are thinking of the victims and their families – particularly the brave member of train personnel whose relatives are being assisted by specialist personnel,” said a senior police officer.
Labor Reaction and Appeals for Measures
Train associations were swift to praise staff and call for more action. One union official stated he would be “requesting immediate discussions with government, train companies and law enforcement to guarantee that we have the strongest available support, resources and effective procedures in operation”.
A different union representative encouraged the train operator and authorities “to act quickly to examine safety, to support the affected workers, and to ensure that no incident like this happens again”.
Driver Commended for Rapid Thinking
The train driver who halted the train at Huntingdon was described as being “very shaken” but “well”, and has been praised by union officials for doing “exactly the right thing”.
“He didn’t stop the train in the middle of two stops where it’s clearly difficult for the emergency services to access, but he carried on traveling until he got to Huntingdon, where the response was almost waiting,” stated a association representative.

Police said they received the first emergency calls at 7:39 pm, and the train was compelled to make an unplanned stop in Huntingdon at 7:50 pm.
An witness recounted at first thinking if the situation was a Halloween joke, but soon realized from individuals' faces that it was real.
Authorities have stated there is nothing to suggest the incident was a terrorist attack and have requested the public to come forward with any further information.
Rail operations on the impacted route are expected to experience delays until the following day, with passengers advised to defer their travel where feasible.
