Australian police have suspended the operation for a young boy who has been lost in the remote area for nearly several weeks, after additional efforts were unable to locate any evidence of the child.

Gus Lamont was last seen engaging near his home on a secluded rural property in the vicinity of Yunta, about 300km from Adelaide, on 27 September.

His grandparent briefly departed for about a short period before looking for him, only to discover the child nowhere to be found, triggering one of the biggest land and air operations in South Australian records.

Latest Situation

Police - who do not suspect criminal activity - say they will persist looking into, but that the case has become a "recovery mission".

Recently, police temporarily reduced the operation, only to restart it on this week alongside eighty military personnel.

"Spokesperson Grant Stevens said police were looking a broader area based on revised analyses from medical and rescue specialists, rather than any recent developments."

Search Challenges

On recently, officials confirmed that the latest hunt had not found any evidence of the boy.

"The reality that the young boy is a small child, the environment is particularly rough, unforgiving and experiencing unpredictable elements has made the operation challenging and more challenging for those engaged," authorities said in a announcement.
